"I put food on the table And roof overhead, But I'd trade it all tomorrow For the highway instead; Watch your back if I should tell you Love's the only thing I've ever known; One thing for sure, pretty baby, I always take the long way home
You know I love you baby More than the whole wide world You are my woman I know you are my pearl Let's go out past the party lights Where we can finally be alone Come with me, and we can take the long way home Come with me, together, we can take the long way home. Come with me, together, we can take the long way home."
--"Long Way Home," Tom Waits
It's not like I even go to many concerts, but this year is shaping up to have some memorable ones. Thanks to shocking early defeat in our hockey playoffs, I'm freed to use a great seat to Radiohead this month. Killing Joke, with its original lineup after the death of their longtime bassist, has dates this fall in New York (two!), L.A. and now Chicago's House of Blues, too. The usual "may be my last chance to see them" applies.
Now comes Tom Waits to St. Louis in June, at the Fox. I've never seen him in person, so this is quite tempting. True to form, he announces the tour with a goofy, empty press conference laced with his off-beat humor. "Pehdtsckjmba" (pronounced "peska-jumba," if you must) is the mystical word for the tour. Naturally.
Decisions, decisions. This should be a grand summer.
My son-outlaw is a near-fanatical Tom Waits fan, so I am glad you broke this news here where I would read it. (America's Network hasn't picked up the story yet.) Any idea when tickets go on sale?

As Talltim has informed me, they go on sale May 16, through Metrotix. The site shows the cheap seats (upper balcony) as $70 and -- oh wait: My bad! Every ticket has a $15 Fuck You charge, so the cheap seats are actually $85, and there's also $105 for the rest and $117.50 for VIP (all including the $15 "we're the company and you're not" charge).
I love how it's acceptable for certain industries to do this. Well, no, actually I don't. But the next time I sell something on Craigslist, I'm definitely adding a $10 Spite for Humanity charge.

Wow, they're really cracking down on scalpers - and screwing those of us who want to give tickets as gifts. Limit of 2 per person/household/credit card - so I can't buy three and take the kids. AND if you get the GOOD seats, tickets are Will Call only for the night of the concert and you have to be present with photo ID - and enter immediately thereafter. But I just wanted to get 2 tickets to give as a gift!

*nods sadly* I feel your pain. I needed to get two, and I wanted to get one extra as a gift -- plus two more requested by friends who are teaching at the sale moment -- and instead, nicht. Silly me for thinking five of us could go to a concert together!

yeah...this ticket policy blows...I think the policy actually favors the "proffessional" scalpers.
As you may have noticed, the site has changed. Sampa, the free-site host, did a version 2 of some sort.
Despite an FAQ that made it sound like allowing one's site to go through v.2 surgery would be okay, there were several flexibilities that surprisingly disappeared with the click of a button. (e.g. I cannot believe sidebars like this one are even narrower than before.)
And I'm told -- miraculously! -- that the conversion cannot be undone. Truth be told, I'm actually quite pissed. But free is free. Sampa has otherwise been good to me.
So I need to sort through site "features" to see how I can make do. Except that I don't have the time at the moment, in the middle of graduate classes and Lighthousehockey.com. (btw, I've removed that Lighthouse RSS feed so that you're not clogged with random Islanders hockey gibberish).
But I promise to touch up the accessories when I get a chance, and return to irregularly scheduled blogging.
