This Thing

Last updated: 15-Oct-2007

Originally conceived as a punk-rock-like little lyric, spiraling into a lark.

This thing
This thing that was no thing
This oh-enticing thing is now a thing of the now

You didn’t know
before there was this thing,
But once you got this thing you couldn’t ever go back

It wasn’t here
Then wham! -- yeah it was here
And now those older people look so foolish and daft

What was life
That oh-so-stinking life
That oh so simple life before this thing had arrived?

Didn’t have it
No one could conceive it
Now everyone must have it and we’re living the life

I got thumbs
Some oh-so-typing thumbs
I’m typing out the messages and feeling so fast

I used to drive
Alone, barely alive,
Now I yammer on to anyone and drive forty-five

I got picture
An oh so massive picture
The pixels are so numerous now they fill up the sky

It works
No, it really works!
Then I drop it in the toilet and my soul is brand new

This package
Impressive classy package
It's like they knew I wanted it and didn't know why

My closet
An oh so snazzy closet
My neckties move on power belts, my t-shirts are stacked

My space
This oh so trendy space
I got seven-hundred friends and my life is online

LOL
F-ing L-O-  F-ing-L
I'm R-O-T-F-L but I will B-R-B

This is new
My thing's so very new
It's not the thing that every other fool still has now

Your thing
Your so-outdated thing
How do you find fulfillment in your meaningless life?

What’d they do
What did my parents do
What did anybody do before this thing came around?

Things change
As you may have noticed, the site has changed. Sampa, the free-site host, did a version 2 of some sort.

Despite an FAQ that made it sound like allowing one's site to go through v.2 surgery would be okay, there were several flexibilities that surprisingly disappeared with the click of a button. (e.g. I cannot believe sidebars like this one are even narrower than before.)

And I'm told -- miraculously! -- that the conversion cannot be undone. Truth be told, I'm actually quite pissed. But free is free. Sampa has otherwise been good to me.

So I need to sort through site "features" to see how I can make do. Except that I don't have the time at the moment, in the middle of graduate classes and Lighthousehockey.com. (btw, I've removed that Lighthouse RSS feed so that you're not clogged with random Islanders hockey gibberish).

But I promise to touch up the accessories when I get a chance, and return to irregularly scheduled blogging.
